What Are the Odds of Getting a Scholarship?

Is It Worth the Effort?

Know the Rules

You need to become well-acquainted with the NCAA website. It is the ultimate voice of authority on all matters related to participation in NCAA athletics.

You MUST learn the basic NCAA college basketball recruiting rules.

Coaches and players are restricted to very specific codes of conduct, and it's important for you to familiarize yourself with these rules to make sure you maintain your eligibility.

Everything from what kind of GPA is required, to what kind of SAT/ACT test scores you need, to how many times a week a coach may contact you, to how many times a coach can watch you play, and the list goes on and on...

Get Exposure

With the incredible amount of competition for athletic financial aid, you need to do everything you can to make yourself visible to college coaches.

Coaches are limited to the number of times they can see players, and they have specific windows of time they are allowed to be out on the road doing college basketball recruiting.

To maximize their efforts, they try to hit tournaments and camps where they can see a lot of players at one time.

Aside from high school games, it's important for you to play summer basketball on a team that travels to some of the more competitive AAU tournaments.

Not only do you receive good playing experience, but coaches can see how your skills stack up against other talented players.

Attending basketball camps is another great way to be seen. Participate in camps hosted by the college you're interested in, so the coaching staff can get to know you.

If you get a chance to attend one of the prestigious invitational camps, by all means try to go.

There are also college basketball recruiting services that can help you market yourself, and you can also send game tapes to coaches, but in my experience these methods are not near as effective as giving coaches the opportunity to see you in person.

Do You have the "Intangibles?"

Scholarship money is scarce, and coaches are limited to the number of players they can carry on their rosters. They have to make sure they indentify players that will make a positive contribution to their program.

Do you have the important intangible qualities coaches are looking for?

Qualities like leadership, character, work ethic, coachability, competitiveness, good sportsmanship, responsibility, accountability, and self-discipline are very important traits in a college athlete.

Are you able to take care of yourself, get to class regularly, and maintain good grades without coaches having to get on your back all the time?

Trust me... Coaches Don't Want Problem Players!

Have You Got Game?

Do you have good basketball skills?

Just because you're a good high school basketball player, does not mean you can handle the level of college basketball.

There's quite a jump between the two.

To be honest, you need to be a really good player.

You need to excel on the court and have the game stats to back it up.

If you feel your basketball skills are lacking in any area, you need to start working hard to improve your game.

This website is loaded with lots of good drills, tips, and other resources to help you become the best player you can possibly be!
